In Maya's Land

For 800 years the Mayas created a civilization which is still a mistery today. In the Yucatan peninsula there are countless cities and ruins, many still to be discovered. Palenque, in the heart of the nowdays peaceful Chiapas was the residence of Pakal, a great king on a metropol, a quite complex society. They didn't know about gold and iron, but had the jade as precious stone. The conquistadores did not see the fall of this culture which was decline in the times where the Toltec from north Mexico invade the peninsula. The Mayas develop their own calenders, and where quite precise with the seasons, even built observatoriums, which use for the land, some legends afirm they predicted the end of the world by 2012, but they never predict the fall of their fascinating civilization. They were not angels. They brought slavery and cruelty to submit man and women for their sacrifices and free manforce to build their cities and temples of limestone. They spread their culture from Yucatan through Central America. They left the cities and the language, still spoken in some areas. I felt a lot of respect climbing the piramides of Palenque and Tikal, impressive contructions. I reject the opinions of those who think that the Mayas were a big civilization who could give great technology and wisdom to our generations. The power and the knowlegde, like in the past in other places, was controlled by the royalty and the religious priesters, they used human sacrifices for different reasons and used slavery as the europeans did in America and Africa.
